Scientific Positions in Engineering - Natural Sciences
The University of the Faroe Islands (Fróðskaparsetrið) is seeking to hire lecturing, research staff for the Faculty of Science and Technology for both full-time and part-time positions.
The Faculty of Science and Technology offers Bachelor’s programmes in computer engineering, engineering, and biology, as well as a Master’s programme in data science and a diploma programme in web development. More information about these programmes can be found at www.setur.fo.
Research at the Faculty of Science and Technology is wide-ranging and includes civil engineering, green energy transition, ocean currents and waves, weather and climate change, computer science and data science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, genetic research, general biology and chemistry, aquaculture, and fish stocks.
Positions
We are seeking enthusiastic, practical and capable colleagues to join our research and lecturing team in engineering or physics (e.g., geophysics, ocean physics, etc.).
Main Responsibilities
1. Teaching:You will teach at the Bachelor’s level in topics relevant to engineering and physics. You will help develop teaching materials and organize laboratory and field experiments.
2. Research: You will conduct research and provide evidence for your experience in your field. You are expected to work on developing new research projects and seek funding from international and Faroese funding bodies.
3. Supervision:You will supervise students’ projects and theses at all study levels and support them in developing their academic skills.
4. Collaboration:You will participate in academic and international cooperation with other researchers and institutions, as well as with industry partners. You should help strengthen ties between the University and relevant industries and institutions.
5. Development of the Field: You will participate in academic development work in both teaching and research. You will also help update curricula so that they reflect the latest international developments in engineering and natural sciences.
6. Qualifications: You have a relevant Master’s or PhD degree in engineering, physics, or related fields. It is an advantage if you have teaching and research experience within geophysics, ocean physics, or other similar specializations.
Skills and Experience
Applicants must hold a relevant university degree (MSc or equivalent) in, for example, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, data science, mathematics/statistics, physics, or a related field. In addition to the required degree, significant emphasis will be placed on relevant work experience. Furthermore, applicants are expected to:
- Communicate well, both orally and in writing, in either Faroese and/or English
- Have experience with interdisciplinary collaboration and research at an international level
- Be able to work both independently and in teams
- Have the ability to manage and coordinate research projects

Hiring process
The positions will be filled in accordance with the Regulations Governing Positions at the University of the Faroe Islands. Salary and employment terms are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Faroese Ministry of Finance and the Faroese Academic Union (Akademikarafelag Føroya).
The successful applicant will be required to reside in the Faroe Islands.
